The "Twins? How Cute" Category

In many families, the birth of twins comes as a great surprise. Many parents do not find out until the birth that they will be caring for two babies instead of one, and many parents are unprepared when it comes to naming the second child.

The most common solutions seem to be names that rhyme (Mary and Carrie) or names that alliterate (Kelly and Kristy). The problem with names that rhyme or alliterate is that as the parents grow older, their memory begins to become fuzzy, and they begin to confuse the two names, since they sound so much alike. This makes them the butt of their children's jokes and can be avoided.

Always have a second name prepared for use in case of twins, and prepare a name different enough from your primary choice so that they will not be easily confused. It will save much time and effort down the road. Also, avoid giving your children alliterative or rhyming names even if they are not twins. It can still be difficult to tell one's children apart.
