The "Aw, Any Middle Name Will Do" Category

Parents of today pull out all the stops when naming their children, in the mad delusion that somehow if their child is not given a unique name, then that child will fail to be unique and special and accomplished and wealthy enough to take care of them when they retire. Except for one stop: the middle name.

Approximately one hundred percent of the female population of the United States has one of two middle names, these being "Anne" and "Marie". Even the foremost researchers of the Institute are baffled by this lockstep conformity in a society that celebrates diversity (on paper, anyway). Parents are urged to use something more original for their daughters' middle names.

The Institute recommends that any parent who cannot suppress their urge to use an unacceptable name on their child use this name in combination with a more conventional middle name. If the child somehow manages to see the light despite their grave parental abuse, they can simply go by their middle name.

A note regarding usage of the middle name: People are to be addressed by all three names only at graduation ceremonies, weddings, and when their mother is yelling at them. No one should insist that others use all three names unless they are in a situation in which they may be confused with another person sharing their first and last name. For instance, actress Sarah Gellar should only be addressed as Sarah Gellar unless another Sarah Gellar were to become famous. Then the two would be differentiated by their middle names (i. e. Sarah Michelle Gellar and Sarah Marie Gellar).
